WHAT IS SAMBANISMO ACADEMY?
SAMBANISMO ACADEMY BOSTON is a year-long professional training & mentorship program for serious HOUSE DANCE students. The program will be split into 2 semesters, each beginning with a multi-day 12 hour intensive in which Edson Guiu will lay the groundwork for the academy’s year-long curriculum. Through the semester, students will continue meeting weekly to explore Academy curriculum under Sean Bjerke.
Once per month, students will attend 1 virtual session with Edson and 1 OG Workshop with members of Dance Fusion. Students will receive a certification upon completion of the program.
HOW MANY CLASSES ARE INCLUDED?
Two 12-hr intensives (May & November 2023)
~40 training classes (~4 classes/month)
- Monthly virtual classes (1 per month)
- OG workshops (1 per month)
100+ professional training hours in total!
WHAT ARE THE ACADEMY GOALS?
- Improve students' understanding of house foundation so they can "dance outside the box"
- Raise the knowledge, proficiency and discipline of Academy members above the average recreational student
- Provide students a clear path toward finding & expressing their unique identity in dance
- Create future leaders & representatives of New England's house/dance community
- Highlight Boston as a destination for high-level dance education
WHEN DO CLASSES BEGIN?
Sambanismo Academy begins May 26-28 with a 3-day intensive led by Edson Gonzaga. Weekly training classes resume Monday, June 5th at Floor Lords Studio. Detailed schedule listed at the top of the page ^
AM I ALLOWED TO MISS CLASSES?
Yes, we understand everyone has lives! Whatever you put into the course, you will get out of it. If you must miss time, we will provide opportunities for you to stay on track with your peers, BUT it’s up to you to stay on track!
HOW WILL STUDENTS MEASURE PROGRESS?
At various points, students will be tested on their understanding of course material, and receive feedback to assess their progress. The Academy's goal is not to compare classmates to each other, but rather, to compare progress from the start of the program.
WHEN DOES REGISTRATION END?
We will accept registration until May 19, one week before our first Academy Intensive.
ARE ACADEMY CLASSES DROP-IN?
NO. Sambanismo Academy is a private training program. Academy students will receive exclusive information and mentorship, to help them stand among the world's best. The Academy will not be able to focus its curriculum if drop-in students are permitted. If you are looking for drop-in class options, check out my House Dance Class schedule.
IS MY TUITION REFUNDABLE? WHAT IF I DECIDE NOT TO CONTINUE?
Tuition for the program is not refundable. True growth and progress must be We understand this is a significant commitment of your time, energy and resources, so we urge you to think hard before you decide to join Sambanismo Academy.
